Mother's Day 2025 | Bianca & Annie

Mother’s Day looks different for all of us & for this duo, spending time together & making each other laugh is what Mother’s Day— & life—is all about.
It’s no surprise that funny moments play a big part in the lives of this mum-and-daughter team. Bianca is a multi-award-winning radio & TV broadcaster, presenter, author, & keynote speaker. Known for her wit & authentic humour, she has even performed her own stand-up comedy show. We’re thrilled to feature the dynamic duo, Bianca & her mum Annie, in this year’s special Mother’s Day Blog series!

Bianca’s mum, Annie, wasn’t shy about being on stage in her earlier years. Having appeared as a model on Australian billboards in the 1970s, she has always supported Bianca’s career and couldn’t be prouder—not just of her achievements, but more importantly, of the caring, compassionate, and kind person she is, which, no doubt, she gets from her mum.
As Bianca Dye bursts with personality both on and off screen, her Instagram handle @biancadye reflects her charm and warmth. This same authenticity shines through in her other account, @anxietyfree, which highlights her advocacy for mental health.
As you can imagine, we were over the moon when we first connected with the fabulous ladies in early 2024, thanks to Bianca’s ambassadorship at the time, at Oasis Shopping Centre. Since then, Bianca and Annie have continued shopping with us and enjoy being fitted with new-season looks to take home and add to their wardrobes!
annIE: what's your favourite part of being a mum?
Watching my daughter grow, change, and mature into the woman she is today. She has become a woman I am proud of. She is always thinking of others and doing lovely things for them, which makes me so proud.
BIANCA: What do you & your mum like to do together?
I love going to the movies with Mum. We both love escaping into the world of cinema and beautiful storytelling—it’s a really nice way for us to bond, especially when we see an arthouse film and then have dinner and a glass of wine afterward to talk about it. We used to enjoy walking around the shops and browsing, and Mum still likes to shop, but her legs get tired more easily these days, so we take shorter shopping trips.
Annie: What’s does Bianca do that always makes you smile & why?
Watching her interact with other people and make them smile and laugh. I love seeing how she puts people at ease, and when she laughs at herself, it helps others feel comfortable in themselves.
BIANCA: What fashion style of your mum’s did you love the most growing up?
Mum has always had a fantastic sense of style. She did quite a bit of modelling in the late '70s and was even featured on billboards across the country for an incredible jean advertisement. I used to love her big '70s-style flared jeans, and I still have a beautiful sequined top she wore out in L.A. during that time. Mum has always loved khaki and bright colours!
Annie: If you could borrow one item from Bianca’s wardrobe, what would it be & why?
I always tried to borrow Bianca’s leopard print reversible Fella Hamilton jacket because we both love leopard print so much. Eventually, she got me my own, since we wear them so often! The fact that it's reversible makes it so handy—and we often show up to meet each other wearing the same jacket! Haha.
BIANCA: What is something your mum always says to you?
Even to this day, Mum always says, 'Stand up straight, put your shoulders back.' And if I’m not smiling, she’ll remind me to smile. When she was cranky with me, she used to say something I always found hilarious: 'Have an apple, bee!'—which I think is an old term for saying, 'Stick an apple in your mouth and keep it shut!' Ha!
Annie: What’s something Bianca would be surprised to learn about you?
That I’m actually not comfortable being photographed anymore! Haha! I used to do it a lot during my modelling days in the early 1970s, and Bianca obviously takes a lot of photos for her work. But these days, I feel a bit uncomfortable in front of the camera—even though I think I hide it well! Bianca always puts me at ease when we take photos now; she’ll say something to make me laugh naturally.
BIANCA: What makes your mum laugh the most?
Me! I always make Mum laugh, and I actually do my absolute best to do it as well! She’s been through some tough times lately—especially losing a close friend of hers to cancer—so making her laugh is the highlight of my day. I’m very cheeky, and she loves it! She also enjoys watching shows like 'Vera' on TV and having a good laugh.
Annie: What’s your proudest moment as a mother so far?
When Bianca won her awards for her work in radio. I know how much it means to her to be recognised among her peers. When she comes home from those award nights with an award for all her hard work and passion for the radio industry, it always makes me proud. She has worked so hard for 32 years to be the best in her field, and I know how tough her industry is—especially as a woman. I really admire her strength and her ability to push through even the darkest times.
BIANCA: If your mum were a superhero, what would her superpower be & why?
She would be Wonder Woman! She is so resilient. My mum has been through so much in her life—just like many of us, I know—and she’s so strong, even though I know there are days when she doesn’t feel strong. She’s a tough cookie. She puts one foot in front of the other and just gets on with it. She is an absolute inspiration to me in that way.
Annie: What is the best advice you have given as a mother?
Advice...? Haha! Oh dear, I’m not sure I’ve always given her the best advice, no matter how hard I tried! But I’ve always encouraged her to be herself, to stay true to herself, and, most importantly, to be independent and not rely on a man in life. To stand on her own two feet, be proud of who she is, and be someone others can rely on—a caring, compassionate, kind person. That’s important, and I think she has become that person, which is wonderful.
BIANCA: What is one of your fondest memories of Mother’s Day growing up?
One Mother’s Day, I took Mum to see Rod Stewart as a surprise, since she adores him! A friend of mine in the industry managed to get us tickets just two rows from the front, and it was incredible! It was pouring rain, and Mum and I were singing 'Maggie May', laughing and crying in the rain. It was such a special moment!
Annie: What does Mother's Day look like for you?
Mother’s Day has always been very different for us because I was living overseas, teaching English as a second language in countries like China and Vietnam, so I was away for Mother’s Day. Now, it’s even more special because we can spend the day together. Back when Bianca was young, we would always spend Mother’s Day with my mother—her grandmother. It was always a tradition to go to her place, where she would cook a huge roast lunch, and we would eat all day, getting spoiled with gifts and love. We miss those days, but now it’s usually just Bianca and me, having lunch with some of her friends’ families or just the two of us. I love seafood, so we often have that, along with a few glasses of bubbles to cheer to life. Life is short, so we need to celebrate those special moments.
